The idea for Florida Tech's first community garden—the Ethos Community Garden—started among a small group of resident assistants who were all members of The Residence Life Sustainability Committee (RLSC).

The Residence Life Sustainability Committee (which works to set the vision and direction of sustainable living in Florida Tech residence halls), applied for and won a competitive, $4,000 grant from the California-based Foundation for Sustainability and Innovation to help cover the cost of the garden.

With that grant, a lot of hard work, research, dedication, passion, and the university's support—the Ethos Community Garden bloomed into life.

The 59-foot-by-39-foot fenced-in area houses nearly two dozen planting beds and will serve as a future platform for sustainable education, provide a conversation highlight for campus tours, allow residents the chance to become self-sufficient in food cultivation skills, and become the catalyst for larger sustainability-based movements around campus.
